Obverse description A stylized Tudor rose in high relief occupies the central field, its five petals rendered in bold detail and surmounted at the top by a St. Edward's Crown. A central round hole pierces the coin through the heart of the rose. The circumference of the rose design is enclosed within a raised inner ring, beyond which the circular Latin legend reads GEORGE V KING EMPEROR, distributed around the full periphery of the obverse. The entire design is bordered by a beaded rim.

Reverse description The denomination ONE PENNY is inscribed in the center field, flanked on either side by decorative floral sprigs. A central round hole is present at the middle of the design. The circular legend SOUTHERN RHODESIA arcs around the upper periphery, while the date appears at the lower exergue flanked by raised dots. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded rim.
