| Obverse description | Right-facing draped bust of Queen Elizabeth II, after Arnold Machin's celebrated effigy, occupying the central field. The Queen is depicted wearing a diadem and with her hair elegantly coiffed. The surrounding legend reads ELIZABETH THE SECOND, divided left and right of the portrait, with the date 1976 positioned at the base below the truncation. The small Pobjoy Mint mark (PM) appears immediately below the bust truncation. The proof striking imparts a sharp, frosted relief to the portrait against a deeply mirrored field. |
