Obverse description Third effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, depicting a right-facing truncated bust of the Queen wearing the George IV State Diadem, as modelled by Raphael David Maklouf. The legend 'ELIZABETH II GIBRALTAR' arcs around the upper periphery, with the date below, all within a beaded border. The portrait presents the Queen in a mature and stately manner consistent with Maklouf's third coinage portrait, adopted for Gibraltar's coinage.

Reverse description A finely engraved, naturalistically rendered Barbary Partridge (Alectoris barbara), the national bird of Gibraltar, depicted in full profile standing to the left upon the coin's field. The numeral '1' appears in the upper right of the field, while the inscription 'ONE PENNY' curves along the lower periphery in bold serif lettering. The design is enclosed within a beaded border, and the bird's plumage is rendered with considerable detail, highlighting the species' distinctive barred and streaked feathering.
