| Obverse description | Crowned facing bust of Queen Elizabeth I, rendered in the hammered style typical of mid-Tudor coinage, with the monarch depicted wearing an elaborate crown and regal robes. The bust occupies the central field and is executed in relatively low relief with characteristic linear detailing of the period. A beaded inner circle frames the design. The circular Latin legend reads + E·D·G·ROSA·SINE·SPINA, translating as 'Elizabeth by the Grace of God, a rose without a thorn,' distributed around the periphery of the coin. |
