Obverse description Facing crowned bust of King Edward VI within a beaded inner circle, the young king depicted with a lightly bearded face and wearing a crown of arched form. The effigy is rendered in the conventional hammered style of the period, with minimal fine detail. The surrounding legend is partially visible along the irregular coin periphery, interrupted by the characteristic striking weakness common to this issue.

Reverse description Quartered royal shield of arms at centre, displaying the fleurs-de-lis of France and the lions passant guardant of England in alternate quarters, superimposed over a long voided cross extending to the coin's edge and dividing the legend. A mintmark (arrow) appears above the shield. The design is contained within a beaded inner circle, with the legend distributed across the four quadrants formed by the cross.
