Obverse description Left-facing crowned effigy of King Alexander III, depicted with flowing hair and wearing a crown adorned with trefoil ornaments, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. A sceptre is held to the left of the bust. The portrait is rendered in the characteristic flat, stylised manner of 13th-century Scottish hammered coinage, with the legend arranged in uncial lettering around the periphery of the coin.
