| Reverse description | Central device depicts the arms of the City of Montreal: a shield divided into four quarters by a saltire cross, each quarter bearing a distinctive emblem representing the founding peoples, surmounted by a beaver at the base of the shield. The shield is encircled by a wreath of roses, thistles, shamrocks, and other foliage, with the motto CONCORDIA SALUS inscribed on a ribbon across the centre of the shield. The outer legend reads BANK TOKEN along the upper arc and ONE PENNY along the lower arc, with CITY BANK to the left and the date 1837 in the exergue. A beaded rim borders the entire design. |
