Obverse descriptionThe bank`s coat of arms. This coin is a mistake: the dies were incorrectly mated, and instead of using the bank`s coat of arms with `Bank of Montreal` and bearing the date `1842`, they used the coat of arms inscribed with `City Bank` and the date `1837`. These coins were minted by Boulton & Watt. These coins are much rarer. There is also a contemporary re-strike of this coin, made by Taylor.
