| Obverse description | Crude facing bust of King Sweyn Forkbeard rendered in a stylized, archaic manner, contained within an inner beaded circle. The royal effigy displays schematic facial features characteristic of late Viking-Age Scandinavian die-cutting. A circumferential legend in uncial Latin letters reads '+ DEnEr rEX AnGLO', identifying the king as Rex Anglorum, separated from the central design by the inner beaded ring. A further beaded ring frames the outer edge of the coin, typical of the hammered penny coinage of the period. |
