| Reverse description | The reverse features a centrally placed lozenge or diamond shape rendered in double outline, creating a concentric geometric device within the field. This simple geometric motif is enclosed by a continuous border of pellets running around the inner edge of the coin, forming a complete beaded circle. The design is stark and unadorned, consistent with the minimalist reverse treatment common to Norwegian pennings of the early fourteenth century. No legend or additional inscription is present. |

Magnus VII Eriksson inherited the Norwegian throne at age three in 1319, simultaneously elected King of Sweden — the only time a single monarch ruled both kingdoms. The regency government that managed Norway through his minority continued issuing penninger under his name, making attribution of specific dies to particular years within this long span essentially impossible. Brekke 45.1 is among the smaller denominations of a coinage already notable for its diminutive silver content, struck at a moment when Norwegian royal finances were increasingly strained by the consolidating demands of two crowns.
