Additional information

Magnus the Good — king of both Norway and Denmark simultaneously from 1042 — issued this penning during a reign defined almost entirely by military pressure. His hold on Denmark was immediately contested by Sweyn Estridsen, a nephew of Cnut the Great, whose long insurgency would outlast Magnus himself. The coin's production window closes in 1047 with Magnus's death, after which Sweyn finally consolidated Danish rule and held it for three decades.

Hauberg 2 is among the earlier attributions in the Norwegian-Danish penning sequence and reflects minting under conditions where royal authority over Danish mints was never fully secure.
