Reverse description A small cross pattée at centre, set within a lozenge or square frame defined by four gables projecting outward at each cardinal side; a point-in-annulet ornament is placed at each of the four corners of the square. The intervening field between the inner frame and the peripheral border carries a blundered Latin legend in debased lettering, consistent with the semi-literate die-cutting practices common to Danish pennings of the Harthacnut period. The design draws directly on contemporary Anglo-Saxon short-cross penny reverses adapted for Danish coinage.
