Obverse description A triquetra (three-pointed interlaced knot) occupies the central field, rendered in the characteristic Viking-age interlace style typical of Norwegian hammered coinage. The device is enclosed by a circular legend reading HARALD REX NAR, identifying the issuer as Harald, King of Norway. A plain ring or beaded border frames the outer edge of the design. The die work is characteristic of mid-eleventh-century Norwegian penny production, with bold if somewhat irregular relief.
