Håkon V moved the Norwegian capital from Bergen to Oslo in 1299, the same year his reign began, and his coinage reflects the administrative shift — Oslo emerges as a mint city under his rule in a way it had not been under his predecessors. The penning was already a diminished denomination by this point, a fraction of what Norse silver coinage had been in the 12th century, worn down by successive debasements across generations of reigns.
Skaare 263 is among the smaller and lighter issues of his penning series.
