| Obverse description | Facing crowned royal bust of King Eirik Magnusson rendered in a flat, stylized medieval manner, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The king is depicted with flowing hair visible beneath the crown, which is adorned with fleurs-de-lis. The surrounding field contains the royal legend in uncial Latin characters. Decorative elements including floral or foliate motifs appear between the legend and the outer rim, reflecting the characteristic craftsmanship of the Bergen Mint during the late 13th century. |

| Additional information |
Eirik Magnusson came to the Norwegian throne at roughly ten years old in 1280, with actual power held by a regency council dominated by the high nobility — the same aristocratic faction that had spent decades clawing back privileges from the crown. The coinage of his first minting period reflects this unstable interregnum rather than any coherent royal monetary policy. Skaare 228 is among the thinner, lighter pennings produced as Norwegian silver coinage entered its long terminal decline in both weight and fineness.
