Obverse description Frontal bust of Christ enthroned in Majesty, depicted in the Byzantine tradition, nimbed and robed in draped garments. Christ holds an orb or book in the left hand and raises the right hand in a gesture of benediction. The figure is framed by a beaded border, with pelleted ornaments distributed across the field, reflecting the Romanesque die-cutting style characteristic of late 11th-century Norwegian coinage. The christogram legend IHS XPS appears in the field, identifying the image as Christ the King.
