| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of João, Prince Regent, facing right, rendered in high relief with finely detailed curling hair bound by a laurel wreath and an elaborate ribbon at the nape. The truncation of the bust is draped in classical manner. The encircling Latin legend reads JOANNES·D·G·PORT·ET·ALG·P·REGENS, denoting his title as Prince Regent of Portugal and the Algarves. The date appears in the lower exergual area beneath the bust. |
