| Obverse description | Central field features the crowned arms of Macau — a quartered shield bearing the Portuguese quinas and the castle of the House of Burgundy — superimposed upon a Portuguese armillary sphere, with radiating lines emanating from the central device. The denomination '1 PATACA' is inscribed along the lower periphery, while the territorial name 'MACAU' arcs across the upper field in large raised Latin letters. Chinese characters for 'one pataca' (壹圓) appear to the left and the characters for 'Macao' (澳門) to the right of the central device. The engraver's signature 'M. NORTE SCULP' is visible in the right field, and the border is formed by a continuous beaded rim. |
