Obverse description Quartered coat of arms of the Duchy of Milan and the Spanish Crown, surmounted by an imperial crown flanked by two heraldic supporters, all within a beaded border. The upper-left and lower-right quarters display the Visconti biscione (a crowned serpent devouring a child), while the upper-right and lower-left quarters bear the Hapsburg eagle. The shield is elaborately mantled with foliate ornaments in the hammered style characteristic of late sixteenth-century Milanese coinage. A partial Latin legend reading MEDIO LANI·D encircles the field.
