Additional information

Montenegro struck this coin in the final months of its existence as an independent kingdom. The Balkan Wars of 1912–13 had just redrew the region's borders, and Nicholas I — who had declared himself king only in 1910 — was presiding over a state that would cease to exist within a few years, absorbed into the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes following World War I. The 1913–14 dating reflects a two-year issue window that was cut short by history rather than by any minting decision.
