| Additional information |
Tipu Sultan's copper coinage was part of a deliberate administrative overhaul that introduced a new calendar, new place names for his mints, and a new weight standard — all enacted in the early 1790s as Tipu worked to distinguish Mysore's institutions from both Mughal convention and British influence. Patan, renamed by Tipu as part of this program, was one of several regional mints brought under tighter central control during this period.
He was killed at Seringapatam in May 1799, and the mint ceased operation under his authority shortly after. Four years of coins.
