| Obverse description | The obverse displays the elaborate coat of arms of the Kingdom of Tonga at centre, featuring a quartered shield bearing a white cross on red, three six-pointed stars, a dove with olive branch, and two crossed swords, all supported by ornate scrollwork. Two Tongan national flags are displayed in saltire behind the shield, and a royal crown surmounts the whole, flanked by laurel branches. A scrolled banner below bears the national motto in Tongan. The legend KINGDOM OF TONGA arcs along the upper periphery in bold Latin letters, with the date 2003 inscribed in the lower field, the whole design bordered by an inner beaded ring. |
