Taufa'ahau Tupou IV, who ruled Tonga from 1965 until his death in 2006, was for a period officially recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world's heaviest monarch — a distinction his government eventually discouraged publicizing. By 1993, Tonga's commemorative silver program had become a significant source of foreign exchange revenue, with issues marketed almost entirely to overseas collectors rather than domestic circulation. This piece never meaningfully passed through Tongan hands as currency.
