Obverse description The design on the obverse was taken from the `Walking Liberty` design by Adolph A. Weinman, and is used for the American Silver Eagle. It depicts a full-length figure of Liberty in full stride, enveloped in folds of the flag, with her right hand extended and branches of laurel and oak in her left. Above the image `LIBERTY` is inscribed and the phrase `IN GOD WE TRUST` can be found in smaller letters to the right. The date is located beneath the central design.
