Obverse description St. Mark, patron saint of Venice, is depicted seated to the left, extending a processional staff surmounted by a cross with pennant toward the kneeling Doge Silvestro Valier at right, in a scene of investiture characteristic of Venetian oselle iconography. The figures are rendered in high relief against a plain field, with the exergue bearing the regnal year notation AN. VI. The outer legend identifies the Doge in abbreviated Latin, reading ·S·M·V·SILVES·VALERIO·D·, with ·AN·VI· repeated in the exergue.
