| Obverse description | St. Mark, the patron saint of Venice, is depicted seated to the left, extending a staff surmounted by a cross and pennant toward the kneeling Doge Silvestro Valier positioned at right in a gesture of investiture. The surrounding field carries the Latin legend identifying the Doge by name and title. The exergue bears the inscription ANN. II, denoting the second year of the Doge's reign. The composition reflects the established Venetian osella tradition of commemorating the ceremonial gift presented annually by the Doge to members of the Great Council. |
