| Reverse description | A six-line dedicatory Latin inscription is elegantly framed within an elaborate baroque cartouche adorned with scrolling foliate and shell ornaments, as visible on the coin. The inscription records the name of the reigning Doge, his title as Prince, the gift nature of the osella, the regnal year (A.VIII), and the civil year 1748. The cartouche is surmounted and flanked by rich acanthus-scroll decoration characteristic of mid-18th-century Venetian medallic art. The overall design is typical of the annual osella presentation pieces struck for the Doge of Venice. |
