Additional information

Piedforts — coins struck at double or greater thickness on a standard-format die — were produced by European mints primarily as presentation pieces, proofs of die quality, or gifts to officials, never for general release. The Zeeland mint at Middelburg was among the smaller provincial operations of the Dutch Republic, and its output in silver piedforts for fractional denominations like the oord is exceptionally limited. The dual reference numbers under HNK (4019.2 and 4019.3) suggest at least two documented die or thickness variants exist within this piedfort designation.
