This piece belongs to Peru's long-running "Riqueza y Orgullo del Perú" series, which the Banco Central de Reserva launched to highlight pre-Columbian and colonial heritage through collector coinage. The "Cultural Roots" theme draws on the archaeological and anthropological record of Andean civilizations — cultures that developed independently of Old World contact and left material evidence still being excavated and reinterpreted today.
