Obverse description The national coat of arms of Peru occupies the central field, depicting a shield divided into three sections: a vicuña in the upper left representing the animal kingdom, a cinchona tree in the upper right representing the vegetable kingdom, and a cornucopia spilling gold coins in the lower section representing the mineral kingdom. The shield is surmounted by a civic wreath and flanked by branches of palm and laurel. The encircling legend reads BANCO CENTRAL DE RESERVA DEL PERU, with the denomination UN NUEVO SOL, the fineness PLATA .925, the weight 33.625 gr, and the date 1999 inscribed around the periphery.

Reverse description A globe rendered in a grid-line pattern dominates the central field, upon which the outlined map of Peru is depicted on the left side with the numeral '150' and the word 'años' superimposed upon it. To the right, a finely detailed Chinese imperial dragon is shown in high relief, its sinuous body coiling upward with clawed feet and a mane of flames. The dates 1849-1999 appear in the lower portion of the globe. The outer legend, reading in Latin script along the lower periphery, commemorates the sesquicentennial of Chinese immigration to Peru, while a Chinese-character inscription arcs across the upper border of the coin.
