Obverse description The king stands full-length within a ship, depicted in full armor and crowned, holding a drawn sword in his right hand and a shield charged with the French royal arms of four fleurs-de-lis in his left. The ship's rigging features ropes in a 3/1 arrangement, with quatrefoils disposed 4/4 and individually as 1-1-1-1 in the field. A crescent ornament appears on the rudder, and stylized waves are rendered below the hull. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the royal legend running in the outer margin.

Reverse description A large floriated cross occupies the centre of the field, its limbs terminating in trefoil finials and dividing the field into four quarters. Each quarter contains alternating crowned leopards passant guardant and fleurs-de-lis, arranged symmetrically within the quadrants formed by the cross arms. A small central boss marks the crossing point. The design is contained within a beaded inner circle, and the reverse legend, citing the scriptural passage of Christ passing through the crowd, runs continuously in the outer margin in uncial Gothic lettering.
