| Obverse description | Facing busts of King Frederick I and Queen Sophia, both crowned and robed in royal regalia, positioned side by side in the upper field with architectural elements — likely stylized gate towers — flanking them on either side. The king appears to the left wearing an elaborate crown and draped mantle, while the queen to the right is similarly crowned and attired. The multi-line Latin legend occupies the lower portion of the field, reading FRIDERICVS ET SOPHIA D G REX ET REGINA DANIE, identifying the royal couple by name and title. The rendering is characteristic of early sixteenth-century North European hammered goldsmith work, with bold, high-relief portraiture and decorative detail filling the coin's surface. |
