| Reverse description | A floriated cross pattée occupies the central field, with a lis at each terminal and a lion passant guardant in each angle, set within a cusped quatrefoil frame. At the centre of the cross, the letter E (for Edwardus) is visible. The quatrefoil is itself enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with small crowns and additional decorative elements filling the spandrels. The circumferential Latin legend, in Gothic script, references the biblical passage of Jesus passing through the crowd, a customary protective inscription on English nobles of this period. |
