Reverse description A large floriated cross of ornate design occupies the entire reverse field, with a trefoil or lis terminating each limb. At the centre stands a large Gothic letter E (Є) enclosing a saltire. The four quadrants formed by the cross are each filled with elaborate floral and lis ornaments in the characteristic Edward III noble style. Saltire and double-saltire stops punctuate the surrounding circumscriptional legend, which is rendered in Gothic uncial script and quotes Luke 4:30, the passage in which Jesus passes through the midst of the crowd.
Reverse script Latin (uncial)
Reverse lettering + IHC x AVTEM x TRANSIENS x PER x MEDIVM x ILLORVM x IBAT
(Translation: But Jesus passing through their midst went His way)
