Obverse description Central field features the denomination numeral '1' flanked to the right by a finely detailed relief of a fig branch bearing unripe figs and broad leaves. To the upper left, the State of Israel coat of arms (menorah with olive branches) is depicted. The trilingual legend 'ישראל / اسرائيل / ISRAEL' arcs along the upper rim, while a biblical quotation from the Song of Songs (2:13) reading 'התאנה חנטה פגיה שיר השירים ב.יג' runs along the right border in Hebrew, and its English translation 'the fig tree putteth forth her green figs song of songs 2.13' curves along the left and lower border. The denomination 'שקל חדש / NEW SHEQEL' is inscribed below the numeral.
