Inaugurated as part of Israel's "Art in Israel" commemorative series, this 1986 issue honored the legacy of Israeli visual arts at a moment when the country was still stabilizing its currency following the 1985 economic stabilization plan — one of the most aggressive anti-inflation programs of the twentieth century, which replaced the old sheqel with the new sheqel at a ratio of 1,000 to 1. The series itself ran across multiple years, each issue dedicated to a different artistic movement or period in Israeli cultural life.
