| Reverse description | The reverse presents a highly detailed proof-struck scene depicting two biblical spies from the narrative of Numbers 13, rendered in finely modelled relief against a deeply mirrored field. The two figures, dressed in ancient tunics, carry between them on a pole a massive cluster of grapes suspended from a vine branch, symbolising the bounty of the Promised Land. The leading figure bears additional produce, while the background suggests a gently rolling landscape. The composition is executed in a naturalistic, sculptural style with exceptional depth of relief characteristic of the proof technique. No legend appears on the reverse, allowing the figural scene to fill the entire field to the inner border. |
