The overprint series was a stopgap measure tied to the January 1960 redenomination that created the nouveau franc — 100 old francs became 1 new franc overnight. Rather than withdraw and reprint the entire overseas note stock, the Caisse Centrale simply had Banque de France overprint existing 100 Francs sheets before issue. This note never circulated in its original form; it was born overprinted.
Fel's base design was engraved by Armanelli on the obverse and Régnier on the reverse — a division of labor standard to Banque de France production runs of the period.
