| Obverse description | Cast brass cash coin with a central square perforation surrounded by a raised square boss. The four-character reign legend 常平通寶 (Sangpyong T'ongbo, meaning 'Ever-Normal Circulating Treasure') is arranged in the traditional cruciform fashion, reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left around the central aperture, rendered in regular script (kaishu). The characters are bold and well-formed in relief against a flat inner field, enclosed within a plain raised rim. The surface displays an aged patina of dark brown and verdigris green typical of cast Joseon-period coinage. |
