| Obverse description | The obverse displays four Chinese characters arranged around a central square hole in the traditional cash coin format. Reading top to bottom, the characters 常平 (Sangpyeong) appear in the vertical axis, denoting the Sangpyeong Treasury, the government bureau responsible for issuing this coinage. Reading right to left across the horizontal axis, 通寶 (Tongbo) appears, the standard classical Chinese term for circulating currency. All four characters are rendered in regular script (kaishu) in low relief against a plain field, consistent with standard Joseon cast coinage practice. |
