| Obverse description | Central square hole flanked by four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform pattern within the coin field. Reading clockwise from the top, the inscription reads 常平通寶 (Sangpyong Tongbo), referencing the Joseon-era government office responsible for currency administration (Sangpyongcheong). The characters are rendered in traditional regular script (kaishu), cast in relief against a plain field, with 常 (Sang) at top, 通 (Tong) at right, 寶 (Bo) at bottom, and 平 (Pyong) at left. |
