Obverse description Cast bronze cash coin with a central square hole. The obverse bears four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform fashion around the central perforation: 常平 (Sangpyong) reading top to bottom, and 通寶 (Tongbo) reading right to left. The characters are rendered in traditional regular script (kaishu) with clean, well-defined strokes. The legend collectively identifies this as a Sangpyong Tongbo — the standard currency of the Joseon Dynasty's Sangpyongcheong (Office of Price Stabilization). The field is plain and unadorned beyond the inscriptions.
