Additional information

The 1 Mun was the workhorse coin of Joseon-era Korea, cast rather than struck — a production method that persisted long after most East Asian mints had transitioned away from it. KM#794 dates to a period when the Joseon court was managing chronic copper shortages by quietly reducing alloy quality, a policy that generated considerable friction between the Board of Revenue and provincial casting houses responsible for meeting annual quotas.

Individual furnaces left subtle differences in casting seams and surface texture that specialists use to attribute pieces to specific minting authorities.
