| Obverse description | Central square perforation surrounded by a raised rim. The four-character legend 常平通寶 (Sangpyong Tongbo) is arranged in cruciform fashion around the central hole: 常 (Sang) at top, 平 (Pyong) at bottom, 通 (Tong) at right, and 寶 (Bo) at left, rendered in traditional Chinese regular script (kaishu). The inscription identifies the coin as currency of the Sangpyongcheong, the Ever-Normal Treasury bureau of the Joseon Dynasty. The field is plain, with no additional decorative elements. |

| Reverse description | Central square perforation with a plain field. Around the hole, characters are disposed in cruciform arrangement: the mint mark 戸 (Ho, Treasury Department) appears at top, the denomination indicator 文 (Mun, cash) at bottom, and the series number 六 (Liu, six) at right, all cast in traditional Chinese regular script. The left position is blank, as is conventional for this issue. The series number at right identifies this piece as belonging to series six of ten known series struck by the Ho (Treasury) mint. |
