| Obverse description | Cast copper cash-type coin featuring four Chinese characters arranged around a central square perforation in the traditional cross-reading format. The characters 常平 (Sang-pyong), reading top and bottom, identify the Sangpyeong agency of the Korean Joseon Dynasty responsible for price stabilization; the characters 通寶 (Tong-bo), reading right and left, denote the standard term for circulating currency. All four characters are rendered in regular script (kaishu) within a plain inner rim and a raised outer rim. |
