| Obverse description | Central square hole surrounded by a raised rim. The four-character inscription is arranged in a cruciform pattern around the central perforation, reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left in classical Chinese regular script: 常平通寶 (Sangpyong Tongbo), identifying the coin as currency of the Sangpyeong (Ever-Normal) treasury system of the Joseon Dynasty. The characters are rendered in a clean, formal style typical of cast Korean cash coinage. |
