| Obverse description | Cast brass cash coin with a central square perforation surrounded by a raised square rim. Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are arranged in cruciform fashion around the central hole: 常 (Sang) at top, 平 (Pyong) at bottom, 通 (Tong) at right, and 寶 (Bo) at left, together reading 常平通寶 (Sangpyong Tongbo), the standard legend of the Joseon Dynasty's Sangpyong monetary system. The outer rim is broad and slightly raised, and the field is plain. |

| Reverse description | Cast reverse displays two Chinese characters flanking the central square perforation, serving as mint and series identifiers. The character 戸 (Ho), denoting the Treasury Department (Hojo), appears above the hole as the mint mark. A series number character appears below the hole, identifying the casting series. A small crescent or dot mark is visible to the right of the square hole, a secondary control mark characteristic of this issue. The field is otherwise plain within a broad raised outer rim. |
