Reverse description The reverse presents a compact, centrally placed Arabic legend in bold Nasta'liq calligraphy, positioned in the lower-centre of an otherwise plain, expansive gold field. The inscription names the mint of issue as 'Mashhad Muqaddas' (the Holy Mashhad), affirming the coin's production at the sacred city of Mashhad. The lettering is struck in moderate relief and surrounded by a wide, unadorned field that occupies the greater part of the flan, consistent with the sparse reverse design typical of Afsharid hammered gold mohurs. The edge of the flan shows the characteristic irregular outline of a hand-struck coin.
