| Obverse description | Central circular hole surrounded by a raised square frame within the coin's field. Above the hole, a St. Edward's Crown surmounts the royal cypher 'VR' (Victoria Regina), which appears below the hole. The legend 'HONG KONG' arcs around the upper periphery, flanked by a milled border, while the date '1866' is split to either side of the square frame at mid-field.
