Reverse description The enthroned Madonna and Child occupy the central field, the Virgin crowned and nimbed, seated facing forward and holding a sceptre in her left hand while the Christ Child, also nimbed, raises his right hand in blessing. Below the figures, a large ornate quartered arms of Bavaria and the Palatinate, surmounted by an electoral bonnet and encircled by a wreath of laurel and palm, serves as the Elector's coat of arms. The surrounding legend reads CLYPEUS OMNIBUS IN TE SPERANTI, meaning 'A shield to all who trust in Thee', a Marian motto of the Wittelsbachs, with the date 1767 prominently displayed in the lower exergual area.
